To celebrate the second anniversary of Oculi Mundi's official launch, we present Physeteres - a miniature monster print taken from of our limited edition of Münster Sea Monsters!
This "Mini Monster" was produced using traditional printing methods: each one is hand-inked and hand-pressed from a bespoke polymer plate onto Fabriano Unica 280 gsm paper, using a mid-century etching press.
The generous margin means that this small but mighty beast can be displayed on a little easel, in a small frame, or simply propped up on a shelf to be admired. Every copy is unique.
Image size 8cm x 8cm, overall size 12cm x 12cm.
Crafted by master printer, Kristina Chan at Plaintiff Press.
Open edition. Each print comes with a certificate of authenticity.
This terrible monster was referred to by ancient Roman scholars Solinus and Pliny the Elder. Physeteres was said to rear up from the sea, spouting water through the blowholes in its forehead 'in the manner of a cloud', soaking and submerging ships!
Find out more about Münster's iconic menagerie or monsters here, and more about this beautiful print was made here.
This limited edition fine art print attracts VAT for UK customers, this will be added at checkout. Fine art prints that are being shipped outside of the UK will not incur UK VAT but may incur import taxes and duties.
