Inspired by the 17th-century portolan sea charts by celebrated cartographer Placido Caloira e Oliva held in The Sunderland Collection, this stunning pair of earrings is part of the Portolan collection made in collaboration with the iconic jewellery house GRIMA.
In homage to the hand-ground pigments and gold highlights used in luxury map-making, these earrings showcase rich lapis lazuli - one of the most precious stones in the world - framed in 18 carat yellow gold. The criss-crossing lines echo the 'rhumb lines' found on portolan charts, a tradition lasting for hundreds of years.
2cm diameter, 0.7cm tall. Limited edition of 6 pairs, and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. Each piece in the Portolan collection is individually hand-made by GRIMA artisans in London.
This design is also available as a ring.
