This limited edition fine art print brings to life to one of the most beloved plates from Sebastian Münster's 'Cosmographia Universalis' (1559): monsters of the land and sea!
This playful scene has been meticulously reproduced as a relief print from a scan of the original work, evoking the woodblock technique used by Münster. Individually hand-printed on a vintage press at Plaintiff Press, every copy is unique.
In homage to the topic of the print and Münster's heritage, this work is printed in silver ink on BFK Rives Noir ("Black Shores") 300gsm paper, producing a beautiful glowing effect. The paper has been sourced from the Arches paper mill in France. Established in 1492, this ancient mill provided the paper for the Nuremberg Chronicle.
This work looks stunning in its original form but also with colour - just as old maps and atlases were produced in both monochrome or hand-coloured editions. Metallic pencils work beautifully - bring yours to life by layering up the pigment!
Limited edition of 200. 36.5 x 29 cm. Also available in black ink on archival white paper.
Individually numbered and embossed, accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity and a description of the monsters in the work.
